Specialties Provided: Infectious Disease
Patient B came to Medina in March 2017 through the HJAHC after losing her job and hence, her health insurance. She presented with a known 15 year history of chronic Hepatitis C, that was checked by a gastroenterologist, but did not conduct any treatment. Patient was seen by primary physician at HJAHC, who further referred her to Medina to see an infectious disease specialist.
Patient received an appointment from Medina infectious disease specialist within a week’s time. Physician’s evaluation revealed that patient had previously “tried treatment with Interferon and Ribavarin, but discontinued after 6 months secondary to nonspecific side effects (increase sleep/tiredness).” Patient was ordered labs to be conducted and then schedule a follow up once completed.
In the interim, patient secured a new job and was eligible for Medicaid. She continued to see the same infectious disease specialist, as their facility accepts the Medicaid she was given. In August 2017, patient contacts Medina PCN again, stating she has lost her job again and no longer has insurance, but would still like to see the infectious disease specialist.
Patient received appointment for September 2017 with same Medina physician. During her insured period with the infectious disease specialist, patient was prescribed Zepatier, and at September 2017 visit, she reported she is tolerating it well. Patient was seen again in December 2017, and reported to be doing well and tolerating treatment well.
